Job Objective & Summary
Set up and prepare tables/trays for delivery. Deliver food and beverage orders to guestrooms according to hotel specifications, courteously, and efficiently.  Also delivers any food and beverage related amenities to the guestroom.  Assists in the maintenance of the Room Service area and equipment. Process payments, check, stock and restock inventory.  Secure liquor from opening to closing.
Essential Functions
  • Ensure timely set up and delivery of orders
  • Retrieve all Food orders from kitchen and place on table/tray in accordance with standards
  • Retrieve all alcoholic beverage items from Bar Attendant and/or refrigerator and place on table/tray in accordance with standards
  • Serve the food items and beverages to the guest in accordance with standards
  • Present checks to Guest for signature/payment. Adhere to all payment procedures established by Accounting
  • Pick-up tables and trays after Guests finish the meal when it is requested
  • Breakdown all tables and trays collected
  • Maintaining complete knowledge of:
    • All liquor brands, beers, and non-alcoholic selections available
    • All menu items, preparation method and time, ingredients, sauces, portion sizes, garnishes, presentation, and price
    • Guestroom layout, locations, and room numbers/names
    • Daily house count, arrivals, departures, and VIP’s
    • Scheduled in-house group activities, locations, and times
    • Standard amenity options
    • Hotel extension numbers
    • Hours of operation of each outlet and be able to describe them
    • Features and service provided by the hotel
    • Local area and culture
  • Set up work station with necessary supplies and resources materials.  Maintain cleanliness throughout shift.  Report shortages to supervisor
  • Complete opening side duties as assigned
    • Check quality and amount of all Room Service stock and supplies using checklist
    • Fold and store Room Service Napkins
    • Overnight server will requisition items to restock storeroom up to par levels
    • Day servers will organize storeroom with al items that were delivered from purchasing
    • Set tables and trays according to service standards
    • Set up all condiments (butter, jellies, syrups, juices) and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) according to service standards
    • Ensure a sufficient supply of all silverware, glassware, and chinaware for service
    • Check cleanliness and condition of all equipment for use in the in-room dining area rectify any deficiencies
    • Ensure all flowers and decorative items are fresh for guest use
  • Complete closing duties
    • Ensure that working area is clean
    • Communicate any follow ups or special information to next shift server
  • Ability to clearly and pleasantly communicate with Guests both in person and by telephone
  • Ability to provide legible written communication
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to understand Guests service needs
  • Ability to be well organized, maintain concentration, and think clearly when providing service to multiple Guestrooms within any given period of time
  • Ability to maintain concentration and think clearly in a noisy environment with high pedestrian traffic
  • Ability to focus on details and resolve numerical problems
  • Ability to exert physical effort in transporting trays and tables from service area to Guest
  • Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and follow through on tasks
  • Ability to suggestively sell menu items, beverages, and wine
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of Guest information and pertinent hotel data at all times.

  • Ability to anticipate Guest needs and deliver unexpressed wishes

  • Handle Guest complaints following the L.E.A.R.N model and ensuring Guest satisfaction
  • Perform all other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualification Standards
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience as a Room Service Server preferred.  Prior experience in a luxury hotel environment highly preferred.
  • Certification of previous training in computers, liquor and wine preferable.
  • State of Hawaii Liquor Commission server card certification or ability to obtain server card required.  Must be knowledgeable in State of Hawaii liquor regulation laws.
  • Certification in CPR helpful.
  • Prior experience with computers, calculators, or work processors helpful.
  • College education on training in the hospitality industry preferred.
    Fluency in a second language desirable.
