Job Description

JOB SUMMARY   
The Senior Manager of Technical Accounting is responsible for assessing the technical accounting implications for complex business transactions and preparing written accounting and financial reporting position papers for review by management and external auditors. During peak reporting times, the position also assists with drafting disclosure for the quarterly and annual financial reports.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Performs the necessary accounting research, analysis, and documentation required to implement new accounting standards.
  • Assesses technical accounting implications for complex business transactions.
  • Prepares written accounting and financial reporting position papers for review by management and external auditors.
  • Assists in developing and documenting Company-wide Accounting policies.
  • Ensures business units are adhering to financial policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Serves as a Company-wide technical accounting resource for ad-hoc questions and initiatives.
  • Assists in the quarterly and annual financial reporting process, including drafting disclosures and preparation of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting checklists.
  • Agrees financial data to supporting documentation for monthly account reconciliations.
  • Works directly with internal and external auditors on specific requests.
  • Assists with special projects within the team as well as with other corporate departments or business units, as needed.
  • Completes all required Company trainings and compliance courses as assigned.
  • Adheres to Company standards and maintains compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field.
EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum five (5) years of experience in the Accounting or Finance field required.
  • No supervisory experience required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position does not include any supervisory responsibilities.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
SKILLS & ABILITIES
This position requires the capability to understand and follow both oral and written directions as well as knowledge and usage of correct business English and office practices.  Must be able to communicate effectively with others, analyze and resolve problems, maintain effective working relationships, and interact successfully with internal and external customers.
Specific skills and abilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Proven abilities in public accounting.
  • Strong technical and general accounting knowledge and ability to research Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), SEC, and other accounting literature.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills combined with solid business and financial acumen.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills with an ability to prioritize multiple tasks/deliverables.
  • Ability to work in a team structure and work with other functions (e.g. tax, financial planning and analysis, systems, etc.) 
  • Highly motivated, self-starter with a commitment to quality and integrity.    
  • Operates autonomously and well under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to interpret and create policies, procedures and manuals.
  • Proficient in time management; the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to take initiative and effectively adapt to changes.
  • Recognizes an emergency situation and takes appropriate action.
  • Able to establish and maintain a cooperative working relation.
  • Ability to interpret and create spreadsheets.
  • Able to use sound judgment; work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
